Blind Pilot in concert

A raucous good time.

I’ve liked Portland’s Blind Pilot for several years now, but I didn’t know what I was missing until I saw them in concert last night. The group’s six-piece, fuller touring sound (lead singer/guitarist Israel Nebecker and drummer Ryan Dobrowski completed a two-man bike tour in the Pacific Northwest in 2008), the performers’ enthusiasm and energy, and the cross-genre intention of the band’s style made the concert one of the best I’ve seen in a long while.

Who is Lana del rey?

Why does the story of Lana Del Rey remind me of the lead character from Madmen, Don Draper? Oh yes, because apparently like Don (whose real name is Dick Whitman and hides a secretive past) Lana Del Rey’s real name is Lizzie Grant and her past is almost a complete mystery to anyone who’s tried to google her.

Alternative revolutionaries: Where are they now?

2012 marks the 20th anniversary of the Alternative Music Revolution. With Nirvana’s album Nevermind breaking onto the scene in 1992, this significant year and subsequent years after saw the flood of grunge, goth, electronica, and pop-punk. This year may not be the apocalypse that the Mayan’s had forecasted but it may be so for some of the musicians that dominated the 90s. Here’s VH1 moment, a look at where some of these alternative music revolutionaries are today.
