Made up of a quartet of players that, collectively, don’t have an overwhelming amount of band experience, Wooden Shjips at once command attention due to the wall of fuzz that is their sound, but also because the noise they make is nothing short of danceable.
Having released a full length on Holy Mountain as well as a collection of singles, the band is poised to release a new disc at the end of the month. Entitled “Dos,” the album should continue where these previous efforts have left off. And I can guess that only based solely upon the cohesive nature of the slew of singles the band’s previously released.
Having only existed for a scant few years, Wooden Shjips haven’t had the chance to tour extensively, although they’ve been to Europe a few times to play festivals. Hopefully, though, this new release will find the boys hitting the road in the States. In the past touring has been difficult due to band member’s outside responsibilities. But with schools closing for summer shortly, that’s one less hurtle for the group to over come.
Live, the band doesn’t necessarily stick to the preconceived notions of what their songs are or should be, resulting in droning, rhythmic experimentation. So, if you get a chance to see them, what you hear might not be on the record you end up purchasing. Whatever “Dos” actually ends up sounding like, though, it’s sure to make you shake your hips.
